Pilot Currency
This guide explains how Pilot Currency works in Private-Radar, including where currency rules are configured, how to view a pilot’s currency status, and what happens if a pilot is not current.
In Private-Radar, Pilot Currency refers to the minimum number of landings a pilot must have completed within a defined time period, in order to perform certain types of flights.
Typically, this includes requirements for:
Solo flights
Flights with passengers
These requirements help organisations maintain operational safety and regulatory compliance by ensuring pilots remain actively proficient.
The exact currency requirements are configurable by Super Administrators and are adjustable depending on organisational policy.
Configure Currency Requirements (Super Administrator)
Pilot currency rules are configured by a Super Administrator in the system settings.
To configure currency requirements: (0:53)
Log in as Super Administrator.
Open the menu, navigate to Settings.
Select the Currency tab.
Here you can define, for both solo flights and flights with passengers:
The minimum number of landings required
The time period in which those landings must have occurred
These settings determine how the system determines whether a pilot is considered current.
Viewing a Pilot’s Currency (1:29)
To view the currency status of a pilot:
Go to the Users module.
Select the relevant user.
Click on the Currency tab.
In this section, you will see the user’s currency status per aircraft. The information displayed is automatically updated based on completed flights recorded in the system.
For each aircraft type, private-radar compares the pilot’s recent landings with the configured currency requirements.
A green check mark indicates the pilot meets the required landing criteria.
A red X indicates the pilot does not meet the required landing criteria.
Hover your mouse over either column to display a tooltip with the required minimum number of completed landings needed to remain current.
What Happens If a Pilot Is Not Current? (2:34)
If a pilot does not meet the configured currency requirements, Private-Radar will display a warning during scheduling and dispatch.
Depending on the Super Admin settings, Private-Radar can either:
Display a warning only, allowing the booking to continue, or
Block the booking or dispatch entirely if the currency requirement is mandatory.
To block a booking if the user is not current: (3:02)
Log in as Super Administrator.
Open the menu, navigate to Settings.
Select the Schedule tab.
Under User Constraints, select “Prevent scheduling when not current” to block a booking.
Select the Dispatch tab.
Under User Constraints, select “Prevent dispatch when the PIC is not current” to block the dispatch.
Roles and Privileges (3:30)
Users must have the appropriate permissions to view pilot currency.
To grant this permission:
Go to the Users module.
Click the Roles and Privileges icon in the top-right corner.
Select the relevant role from the dropdown list (for example, Student).
Navigate to the Users tab
Enable the option View Currency tab.
Users assigned to that role will now be able to view pilot currency information.
