Intro to the SMS Module

In this tutorial, I will give you a brief introduction to the Safety Management System Module.

The SMS allows you to log all the safety events of your school, in order to improve the safety.

You can see the list of all the events on the main page, with the ID number, date of report, event type, the user that filed the event, the title, risk classification, status, M.O.R. (Mandatory Occurence Reporting), and the documents attached.

You can also filter the list by date, type of risk, risk level, status, and M.O.R.

Depending on your Roles and Privileges, you can view, add, edit, assess, and delete an SMS event. You can also download and print a PDF of the event report.

When you add an event, you can add general information or complete it in the advanced tab with the help of the predefined event types and the related detailed information.

You can also check off the box for a Mandatory Occurrence Reporting in the case when you are required to report accidents and certain types of incidents.

You can register an event anonymously or with your user account name.

For example, I am going to select "Bird Strike".

You can add details about the aircraft, flight, bird strike information, injuries, aircraft damage, other damage, and weather conditions.

You can also add photos and documents in the Documents tab.

Next, you have the Assessment tab. Here you can register the primary problem, the contributing and human factors, do a pre-assessment evaluation using the ERC matrix (Event Risk Classification), and then classify the final risk with the ICAO matrix.

Then, you can describe the actions to take and the ones that have been taken.

ROLES AND PRIVILEGES: (1:57)

Remember that you can define which users have the option to do the assessment in the Roles and Privileges. You can find this in the Roles and Privileges window, under the SMS tab, and check the box for the “Assess event” option.

For example, a student or instructor may only have the option to add SMS events; they will only view the General, Advanced, and Documents tab. Then, the SMS Manager could see that the event has been added by the student or instructor, and he can assess, set the status, and define the actions to take.
