How to Limit the View of Aircraft

In this tutorial, I will show you how you can set up your account to limit someone to view only specific aircraft. You can limit the view to one or several aircraft.

Let me start by explaining that you can limit a user role to view a base or bases.

It is not possible to directly limit a user to view certain aircrafts, therefore you must assign an aircraft to a base, give the user a specific role that you can then  limit to view a specific base or bases.

To do so, you need to follow the next steps:

ADD A BASE TO THE AIRCRAFT: (0:41)

1. First, log in to your account.

2. Go to the Aircraft Module.

3. Select an aircraft.

4. Click on the “Edit” button, the pencil icon on the top right-hand corner of the page.

5. Scroll down to “Bases”, here you can write the name of the main base as well as add a temporary base for a specific period of time.

REMEMBER: The name that you give the base depends on you, so if your purpose is to add a base to an aircraft to restrict the view for specific students or instructors, then you can choose a name that helps you to identify it. For example, I am going to write “Heathrow - Students ABC”.

You can do the same for other existing aircrafts by editing their information and adding a base, or when creating a new aircraft.

For more information on how to add or edit an aircraft, please watch the tutorial How to Add/Edit/Delete an Aircraft.

MANAGE ROLES AND PRIVILEGES: (1:46)

To create a role with the privileges to see the specific base that we created, follow these steps:

1. Go to the Users Module.

2. Click on the “Roles” button on the top right-hand corner of the page.

3. Click on the ”+ Add” button and give a name to your new role. For example, I am going to name it “Students ABC”. Select “Create a blank role”, or use an existing role as a base by checking off “Copy this role” and selecting it from the drop-down list.

4. Now, you can set up the privileges for the role "Students ABC".

5. Go to the Aircraft tab, check the “View Aircraft Module” box, and under “Bases” choose the base you created “Heathrow - Students ABC”. This way, any user given this role will only be able to see aircraft on this base.

6. If you wish to authorize the role to view the live map, go to the Users tab and check the box under Aircraft Tracking System. This will allow the client to track his flights and view alerts if the aircraft has a tracker installed.

CREATE A USER: (3:05)

You must create a user:

1. Go to the Users Module.

2. Click on the “Add” button, the plus sign on the top right-hand corner of the page.

3. Here you can add the user information. The minimum information required is the first name, last name, and email address.

4. You must also select a role if you want to give the user access. We are going to put “Students ABC”.

5. Click on “Save”.
