Overview of the Crew Information System

Introduction to the Crew Information System (CIS)

Welcome to Private-Radar Tutorials,

In this video, I will give you a quick introduction to the Crew Information System (CIS).

What is the Crew Information System?

The Crew Information System is a module that allows to send essential information and documents directly to flight crew members.

Notifications are delivered both via email and within Private-Radar, ensuring that important updates, such as new or revised Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), are never missed.

These communications can be marked as mandatory reading and/or requiring a signature, with built-in compliance tracking. If crew members have not acknowledged or signed the information, flight dispatch can be blocked, ensuring full adherence before any flight takes place.

Why use the Crew Information System?

The CIS strengthens operational safety and supports regulatory compliance by making sure all crew members receive and confirm critical information.

It closes communication gaps and provides a clear audit trail of who has read and signed what, increasing overall accountability.

When to Use the Crew Information System?

Use the Crew Information System to distribute critical and time-sensitive information.

This includes, but is not limited to: SOP changes, safety bulletins, airport or airspace updates, internal policy adjustments, etc.

Any information that must be acknowledged by crew before flight operations should go through the CIS.

Example Use Case: SOP Change at Flight Training Base

For example, a training base updates the runway taxi procedure due to a new regulation at the airport. Through CIS, the Head of Training uploads the updated SOP document, marks it as mandatory reading and mandatory signature, and sends it to all instructors and student pilots.

Private-Radar will track who has read and signed the document and block dispatch for any pilot who hasn’t completed the required acknowledgment—ensuring full compliance before any flight can proceed.

Important: A user must have the correct Roles and Privileges to send out CIS notifications. For more information, please watch the tutorial; Roles and Privileges for the CIS Module.
